“…And whatever wealth you give away (as charity donation) goes to your own benefit. It is not appropriate for you to spend but for Allah’s pleasure alone. And whatever you spend of your wealth, (its reward) will be paid back to you in full and you shall not be treated unjustly…Those who spend (in the cause of Allah) privately or publicly, by night and day, have their reward with their Lord. And (on the Day of Resurrection) they shall neither fear nor grieve.” – (Al-Baqarah 2:272-274)
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) once had several coins that he asked his wife to
distribute in charity. But due to the Prophet's illness at the time, she did not have an
opportunity to give out the coins. When the Prophet learned of this, he asked for the coins,
placed them in his hand, and then said: "What would God's Prophet think if he were to meet God,
who is Great and Glorious, while (still) possessing these?" - Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 586
The Prophet also said: "Give charity without delay, for it stands in the way of calamity."
- Al-Tirmidhi, Hadith 589
The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said: "Every Muslim has to give in charity."
The people then asked: "(But what) if someone has nothing to give, what should he do?"
The Prophet replied: "He should work with his hands and benefit himself and also give in
charity (from what he earns)." The people further asked: "If he cannot find even that?"
He replied: "He should help the needy who appeal for help." Then the people asked:
"If he cannot do (even) that?" The Prophet said finally: "Then he should perform
good deeds and keep away from evil deeds, and that will be regarded as charitable deeds."
- Sahih Al-Bukhari, Volume 2, Hadith 524
It is not righteousness that you turn your faces to the east and to the west.
But righteousness are those who believes in Allah and the Last Day and angels,
scripture, prophets and gives of their wealth, for the love of Allah, to their
close relatives, orphans, the needy, the traveler and to those who ask, and to
free the slaves and observe proper worship and pay zakat (poor due). And those
who keep their treeaty when they make one, the patient in trials and tribulation
and adversity and times of stress. Such are those who are sincere. Such are those
who are the God fearing (mutaqieen).[Quran Surah Baqarah, chapter 2, verse 177]
The Courier of Allah (sallAllahu alayhi wa sallam / may Allah bless him and allow him peace) said:
“When a man passes away, his actions come to an end except for three things: Sadaqah Jariyah
(continuous charity); information which is beneficial; or a virtuous enfant who prays for him (the deceased).”
[Sahih Muslim]
